Applications are now open for the 2019-2020 Diversity on Board program. A collaborative effort with United Way of Summit County, Diversity on Board launched in 2016 and provides leadership development, education and board-matching services to advance minority representation on nonprofit and public boards.
Over the course of the program (October – May), participants will gain valuable knowledge on all aspects of board governance and leadership, receive personalized coaching from established leaders within the nonprofit and public sectors, and engage in board shadowing, community service and networking opportunities with many of the leading organizations throughout Summit County, fully equipping them for future board and committee service.
“Through the Diversity on Board program, we hope to play a critical role in diversifying the Greater Akron area’s nonprofit and public boards to be more representative of the people they serve,” said Barry Dunaway, president of Leadership Akron. “Building a better future for our community can only happen if every voice has a chance to be heard. And that’s especially important in our nonprofit institutions,” said Jim Mullen, president and CEO of United Way of Summit County. “Diversity on Board helps ensure that the leaders who shape our community and help it realize its full potential reflect the makeup of Greater Akron.”
Interested minority professionals looking to develop the skills and connections needed to serve on nonprofit and public boards should apply online at leadershipakron.org/programs/diversity-on-board. Deadline for applications is April 30, 2019.
