Imagination Library!

Each month, a brand new, age-appropriate book will be mailed to every child enrolled, free of charge. With the arrival of the first book, the classic “The Little Engine That Could,” children begin to experience the joy of finding their very own book in their mailboxes. These moments continue each month until the child turns five, and in their very last month in the program the book they receive is “Look Out Kindergarten Here I Come.” All children ages birth to five in Summit and Medina counties are eligible to receive free books!

Imagination Library Update

Effective March 31, United Way of Summit & Medina will shift ownership of the Imagination Library program. At this time, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio Statewide Team will be the new point of contact for the program for both Summit and Medina counties. Throughout this transition, our goal is to ensure the program will continue without interruption for enrolled families, as well as new enrollees; book delivery from the Imagination Library program will continue through this partnership with the Ohio Statewide team.

Our United Way has served as the Local Program Partner managing registrations and enrollment for families, alongside the fiscal responsibility of book costs, to support this program throughout Summit County since 2008 and throughout Medina County since 2020. During this time, we have sent 1,577,181 books to local children and families. Access to books through this program has helped support kindergarten readiness by building a free home library for the 33,052 graduates (children who aged out of the program when they turned 5), alongside numerous other enrolled children throughout our time overseeing the program. We have been grateful for the opportunity to help bring this program to families throughout the years and will continue to champion the great impact it has for our community.

As we move out of our current role as the Local Program Partner overseeing the program, we will continue to serve as a referring partner where everyone is encouraged to continue promoting the program. As you discuss this program moving forward, please refer to it as the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library of Ohio program. When encouraging new families to register, please be mindful of some changes to the registration process outlined below:
