United Way is proud to be fiscal sponsor for Summit for Kids!
Sponsored by the Summit on Children Task Force, this annual event brought together groups from schools, health care, government and a wide variety of community agencies working to enhance local services provided to children and families. Summit for Kids — which is part of the larger Summit Kids Month of August — returned for the sixth year to the John S. Knight Center convention center in downtown Akron on Saturday, August 15.
New this year — United Way volunteers registered more than 500 preschool children on site to receive free books! United Way’s Imagination Library mails each month a brand new, age appropriate book to every child enrolled. There is no cost or obligation to participant families.
In addition to Imagination Library, there was lots of information for parents at the Summit for Kids event, including school registration, immunizations, physicals and child safety tips. There was plenty of fun for kids, too, including crafts, face painting, balloons, and free giveaways of bookbags, coloring books, crayons and other school supplies. There was also musical entertainment throughout the day, and clowns and costumed character – including Spiderman!
More than 18,000 parents and children attended. For more details, go online to summitforkids.net.
