Today, United Way of Summit County announced the release of its new engagement calendar for 2018. Available on the United Way website, the calendar lists more than a dozen volunteer events available to corporate groups and individual volunteers throughout the coming year. The opportunities offered in the 2018 calendar have been designed to advance the organization’s four Bold Goals for 2025. Whether it’s promoting early literacy through the Page It Forward Book Drive in March, or financially empower families through VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance), volunteers can target the way they want to make an impact on their community.

United Way events are designed to accommodate both individual volunteers and large groups of corporate volunteers. Studies show that businesses who encourage their employees to participate in volunteer activities enjoy the benefits of improved employee job satisfaction and performance, as well as increased recruitment and retention.

2018 will be the third year of United Way’s expanded engagement opportunities. In addition to returning events like Page It Forward, Day of Action, Stuff the Bus, Read to Me Day and Holiday Snack Packs, the calendar includes new volunteer opportunities, such as a Helping Hands Service Day and Volunteer Income Tax Assistance in the spring.

The 2018 calendar comes on the heels of a record year for volunteer turnout at United Way. With final results still pending, United Way has already greatly surpassed last year’s numbers of volunteers and supplies collected – a testament to commitment of local businesses and individuals to improve Greater Akron.

“I am continually impressed by the energy and compassion in this community,” said Jim Mullen, President and CEO of United Way of Summit County. “Our growing engagement opportunities are one way we are channeling the human capital of our community and our local businesses to make a real, lasting impact on our community. That’s how we build a better Summit County for families, for children and for employers through 2025 and beyond.”
