Several Akron-area leadership community training opportunities have deadlines coming up this month for applications.
They are:
•The Women’s Network Community Leadership Institute: This is a collaboration between Leadership Akron and the Women’s Network of Northeast Ohio. After a successful pilot in 2015, this program is being made more widely available to individuals and employers. This opportunity will empower each participant to grow as professional leader, a woman leader, and a community leader. Participants will explore four fundamental dimensions of leadership as they draw on their work with the strengths profile to develop their own leadership pathway. Application deadline is Jan. 8 and the cost is $850 for members of the Women’s Network and $1000 for nonmembers. For more information, visit www.leadershipakron.org/womens-network-cli.
• Diversity on Board: This successor effort to United Way’s Project Blueprint program with Leadership Akron is focused on preparing ethnic/racial minorities for nonprofit board involvement. Participants will have monthly coaching between workshops with the goal of matching graduates with a nonprofit board. The cost is $500 with some scholarships available. Application deadline is Jan. 22. For more information, visit www.leadershipakron.org/diversity-on-board.
• YP Leader Corps: This is the second year BVU: The Center for Nonprofit Excellence will be offering a training program for young professionals to become engaged leaders in the community. The program culminates with each participant being matched to serve on an Akron nonprofit board. The program is supported by the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation.
Participants in BVU’s YP Leader Corps will attend a half-day workshop each month for three months. Topics covered will include trends in the nonprofit sector, leadership styles, mastering effective meetings and BVU’s acclaimed Role of the Board program.
Young professionals interested in participating in the YP Leader Corps must be between the ages of 25 and 40, and submit a completed application on or before Jan. 30. A portion of the program cost is being underwritten by Knight Foundation and the cost is $500, which may be paid by the individual, his/her employer or a combination. Scholarships are also available.
