At United Way of Summit & Medina, we believe that strong communities are built by investing in the potential of every young person. That’s why Youth United exists. This mentorship program connects caring adult mentors with Akron youth to foster personal growth, build essential life skills, and support career readiness.
Through supportive relationships, intentional goal-setting, and meaningful community engagement, we empower participants to strengthen their leadership abilities and discover new ways to make a lasting impact in their neighborhoods.
The Youth United Approach
The program is built around three key factors, each designed to help mentors and mentees grow together:
Explore
Fun and interactive programs that introduce mentees to the theme and basic skills at the heart of the mission. (Remember, Understand)
Expand
Developmental programs that guide mentors and mentees to go deeper into the focus of the mission. (Apply, Analyze)
Elevate
Unstructured and flexible programs that allow mentors and mentees to reflect and put their learning into action. (Evaluate, Create)
This structure follows Bloom’s framework, with monthly learning opportunities that progressively build essential life skills. From cooking and budgeting to STEM and the arts, Youth United gives students’ tools to thrive both today and in the future.
How You Can Help
