United Way of Summit & Medina is celebrating a significant milestone in educational opportunity, one of its three pillars of impact. Bold Goal 2: Youth Success has been exceeded, with Akron Public Schools students achieving a 90% graduation rate and 85% college and career readiness rate.
This achievement reflects more than an academic milestone. It reflects how the collective commitment of United Way, College & Career Academies of Akron, and local businesses working together helps young people gain the knowledge and skills they need to build successful futures and contribute to a thriving community. The latest Ohio School Report Card shows a nearly 10% increase in four-year graduation rates in the last five years. Other notable achievements include the district’s 4-star rating which exceeds standards for college, career, workforce, and military readiness and their 3-star overall rating which meets state standards.

College & Career Academies of Akron connects students with career-focused learning pathways aligned with local workforce needs, helping them develop the skills to pursue higher education, technical training, and meaningful careers. Through United Way, local businesses can invest in these opportunities while strengthening the region’s talent pipeline. When students are prepared for the workforce, employers and communities all benefit.
