United Way of Summit & Medina Relocates Garfield Cluster Family Resource Center to Garfield CLC

Aug 21, 2026

United Way of Summit & Medina has relocated its Garfield cluster Family Resource Center (FRC) from McEbright CLC to Garfield CLC, expanding access to resources and support for students, families, and residents throughout the surrounding neighborhoods.

United Way’s Family Resource Centers within Akron Public Schools serve as welcoming, accessible hubs where students, families, and community members can connect with information, referrals, and individualized support. Staffed by United Way coordinators, Family Resource Centers provide ongoing wraparound care, connecting clients to resources offered by United Way, including housing assistance and free financial counseling, as well as services provided by community partners.

There are now five United Way Family Resource Centers located within Akron Public Schools located inside North High School, Helen Arnold CLC, Hyre CLC, David Hill CLC, and Garfield CLC. Learn more at uwsummitmedina.org/frc

Since the first FRC opened in 2019, the centers have helped meet both everyday needs and critical challenges, providing free transportation, food deliveries, and school supplies while hosting thousands of community members at events ranging from family dinners and health screenings to financial literacy sessions.

“The Family Resource Center at Garfield CLC will allow us to connect with and support even more families throughout the Garfield cluster,” says ShaQeria Hunter, Director of Family Resources at United Way of Summit & Medina.

By addressing the barriers that can stand between students and success, FRCs help families access the resources they need to thrive. This work directly supports United Way’s Bold Goals by 2028, including improving third grade reading scores, increasing high school graduation and college and career readiness rates, reducing infant mortality, and advancing financial empowerment across the community.
