In partnership, the City of Akron and United Way of Summit & Medina are proud to announce that the Financial Empowerment Center (FEC) is moving to a new, more accessible location in the heart of downtown Akron: 37 N. High Street, Akron, OH 44308, the current United Way building.
This move, effective June 1, 2025, reflects the unwavering commitment to making it easier for individuals and families to access the tools they need to build stronger financial futures. As a trusted hub for free, professional financial services, the FEC provides one-on-one financial counseling, credit-building support, and tax preparation assistance. With more than 3,400 clients served and over $12 million in financial outcomes generated, the FEC has become a vital resource in the community.
Relocating to downtown will allow the City of Akron and United Way of Summit & Medina help even more clients and strengthen the FEC’s role as part of the hub for wraparound support. The new location offers improved accessibility, including ample onsite parking, and places the services in closer proximity to job centers, public transportation, and other essential resources like United Way’s Housing services and 211 call center.
“This is more than a move, this is a better investment in our community,” said Annie McFadden, President and CEO of United Way of Summit & Medina. “By placing the Financial Empowerment Center within our main offices, we are creating a stronger connection between our core services, community partnerships, and the families we serve. Beyond these benefits, it’s also a better use of resources as we look to maximize every dollar we raise.”
This strategic relocation, made possible in partnership with the City of Akron, also supports long-term sustainability.
“This strategic move will better serve our residents and those seeking support from the Financial Empowerment Center,” said Akron Mayor Shammas Malik. “The relocation ensures that these important financial services and resources are more accessible to our community. We look forward to our continued partnership with United Way of Summit & Medina as we work together to serve the Akron community.”
Whether you’re working to reduce debt, improve your credit, build savings, or navigate your taxes, the Financial Empowerment Center is here to help, and is now more accessible than ever.
