Five days after winning his first professional golf tournament on American soil, Akron native Harold Varner III will be the special guest at United Way of Summit & Medina’s Bold Glow on June 2. The annual event, which combines a nighttime glow golf outing and a party with food, drinks and live music, will take place at J.E. Good Park Golf Course starting at 6 p.m. Proceeds support United Way’s Bold Goal 2 – to boost high school graduation rates and college/career readiness in Akron Public Schools students and increase access to employment or extracurricular activities for Akron youth.

On Sunday, Varner won the LIV Golf DC tournament just outside of Washington, DC, edging out South African golfer Branden Grace with a birdie on his final hole to take the $4 million top prize.

Earlier this year, Varner and his HV3 Foundation partnered with United Way of Summit & Medina to launch Youth United, a youth development and leadership program. Youth United connects young people to adults who can provide guidance, advice and inspiration to help them achieve their potential. Together, adult Success Coaches and student Youth Leaders will take part in regular activities, including outings to sports and entertainment events, to expand students’ horizons and help them build social capital through personal connection.

Recruitment for Youth United is ongoing. Adults interested in becoming a Success Coach – which requires a background check – and students interested in becoming Youth Leaders can apply today!
