Looking to volunteer in 2025? United Way of Summit & Medina offers opportunities throughout the year.

Jan 3, 2025

United Way of Summit & Medina is recruiting participants for its 2025 volunteer opportunities. Designed to accommodate individuals, families and groups – including workplace teams – these events allow volunteers to make a direct positive impact on their community.

Last year, United Way volunteer events brought together 700 people from across Summit and Medina counties. Volunteers sorted, packed and distributed 1,400 backpacks full of school supplies to local students through the Stuff the Bus school supplies drive. Volunteers provided more than 1,400 hours of service to local nonprofits for United Way’s Day of Action. Read to Me Day volunteers read books to 900 students in Summit and Medina counties. And volunteers helped put on more than 40 Families United Nights at United Way’s Family Resource Centers in Akron Public Schools.

United Way’s volunteer events for 2025 include:

  • Read to Me Day – Set for March 3, volunteers will visit schools throughout Summit and Medina counties and read stories to kids.
  • Day of Action – On June 20, volunteers will take on multiple projects to help advance United Way’s work in the community.
  • Stuff the Bus Medina – Throughout the summer, individuals and businesses will collect school supplies for kids, and on August 1, volunteers will sort and pack bags for distribution.
  • Stuff the Bus Akron “Recharge” – Throughout the summer and fall, individuals and businesses will collect school supplies for kids, and on November 13, volunteers will sort and pack bags for distribution to Akron Public Schools students when they return from winter break.
  • United Way Days – A new volunteer opportunity each month, giving people the opportunity to help where it’s needed most.
