McFadden becomes the 8th President and CEO in the near 110-year history of the organization, and the first woman to be at the helm after joining the organization in August of 2022. In her role she has been instrumental in the engagement and implementation of their ecosystem strategy and development of stronger partner relationships.
“I want to thank the board for trusting me to lead the United Way. I am excited to work with the dedicated volunteers and staff to ensure we keep moving the mission and vision forward. I care deeply about Akron, Summit & Medina counties and will work hard to maintain and build relationships in the community,” said Annie McFadden, Interim President and CEO of United Way of Summit & Medina.
Prior to joining United Way, McFadden served as the Deputy Mayor of Administration and Chief of Staff for the City of Akron under Mayor Dan Horrigan. In that role she was instrumental in leading the passage of issue 4 in 2017 which provided $16M of tax revenue annually in support of safety forces and infrastructure in Akron. In addition, she was vital to the administration in their partnership with United Way that launched the Financial Empowerment Centers in 2017, now a core program and partnership between the two entities. She is also a proud graduate of Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, IN.
