The Sojourner Truth Legacy Plaza is open from dusk to dawn, and is privately owned and operated by United Way of Summit & Medina.
Access to the Plaza and adjoining indoor space:
- The outdoor plaza is open to the public. Community members, students and visitors are free to come and go as they please during plaza hours.
- Any structured events on the outdoor plaza requiring accommodations, or events with 50 or more people in attendance must have prior written approval of UWSM before taking place. This includes restroom access.
- The Knight Center for Truth event space inside the United Way of Summit & Medina building and adjacent to the Plaza is a private event and meeting space owned by United Way and is not considered open to the general public for rental or available use. However, community organizations may inquire about access to this private room for plaza related uses. Access is at the discretion of United Way of Summit & Medina.
Rules
- No littering
- No smoking or vaping
- No firearms or weapons of any kind
- No alcohol, drugs or controlled substances
- No glass
- No fires, explosives or fireworks
- No gambling
- No overnight camping or lodging
- No skateboards, rollerblades, bicycles, or scooters
- No damage of any kind to the Plaza
- All children must be supervised by an adult at all times
- All pets must be on leash and cleaned up after
- Noise should be kept to a minimum
Any violations of these rules may lead to dismissal from the Plaza. Any person who is in the Plaza outside of the posted hours, or who has returned after dismissal for a violation of these rules, is subject to prosecution for trespassing. All Plaza rules are subject to change at any time, and may be modified by United Way to accommodate select events. The Plaza is under video surveillance at all times.
